SPEECH 2

Juggling

  • Today I’m going to be demonstrating how to juggle. Juggling comes easy with practice and of course a little bit of skill.
  • The first thing you want to do is choose an easy ball that won’t bounce, isn’t slippery, and wont roll away when you drop it because that gets really annoying of course if that is available to you. If not any ball will of course work, but I definitely recommend using 3 of the same size balls, or else you do seem to usually get easily tripped up.
  • First just practice tossing one ball, you need to be comfortable with throwing and catching with both hands. a  light, controlled toss works best. You don’t want tons of hang time although when first learning it’s easy to have a lot of hang time so you can get your grips on the other ball ready for the toss. But you definitely don’t want to have not enough hangtime, this will make you feel rushed and chaotic. It will make it so you don’t have time to comfortably grasp the ball before you have to throw it again. Mostly, you don’t want the ball way out of your reach, if you’re spending time focusing on chasing the suspended ball you will mess up your controlled toss because most likely you will be off center with your arms extended.. You need to find the right balance for you.
  • Practice scooping. This helps it so you throw the ball around the one that’s on its way down, the absolute worst thing is when you’re finally getting a rhythm going and then you smack the ball your just threw off the one coming down you were so ready to catch.
  • Take one ball in each hand toss them back and forth, also practice two balls in one hand. This helps you prepare for getting around the one coming down and works the release/catch motion that is so important for this skill.

Three balls

  • You really only have one ball in the air at a time
  • Practice catching the ball right after the quick release of the other
  • Start with two balls in the dominant hand
  • It’s really just a criss cross method
  • Eventually you can get more skilled with the over the top
  • Once you learn how to juggle balls, you can pretty much juggle anything. Therefore impressing all your friends!
